I. You will listen to a dialogue between a boy and a girl discussing which type of pankha they should choose as a gift. As you listen, choose four statements out of seven that are true from 1–7 given below. (Transcript for teacher on page 263)

Answer
The four true statements are 1, 2, 3 and 6.
In the transcript (Appendix, page 263) the Boy is Rohan — he opens with “Priya, what do you think we should get Grandma for her birthday?” — and the Girl is Priya. Half the task is simply keeping track of who said what, because three of the false statements are true remarks put in the wrong speaker’s mouth.

How to be sure of 1 and 2, which are the hard ones: use the number the question gives you. Statements 4, 5 and 7 are contradicted outright by the recording — 4 and 5 attribute a line to the wrong speaker or reverse an opinion, and 7 is the opposite of what Rohan says. Since the task states that exactly four of the seven are true, and 3 and 6 are certainly true, the remaining two must be 1 and 2. Checking them against the transcript then confirms it. In a listening test, this cross-check is worth doing whenever a statement feels borderline.
Tip for listening tasks like this: before the recording starts, mark each statement with the name it contains — R or P. Then listen only for who is speaking when the idea comes up. Most of the errors in a task like this are speaker-swaps, not content errors.
